Okay so—this happened recently.
I was just sitting in my hall, looking around, and I thought, “Why does this place feel…empty?” Not furniture-wise. Not like decor was missing exactly. But something about the vibe felt off. You know that feeling?
And then it hit me—I needed a painting. A big one. Something bold, something with presence. But not modern art or some abstract thing (I’m not cool enough to “get” those). I wanted something rooted. Traditional. Beautiful. Something that felt like home.
The Rabbit Hole of Tanjore Art
So I did what anyone does—Googled. “South Indian paintings” → click click scroll scroll → and there it was. Tanjore art. I mean, I knew what it was, vaguely. I’d seen it in temples and maybe at some friend’s wedding gift table or something. But once I started reading properly? I fell headfirst into the world of it.
Tanjore painting (or Thanjavur painting, if you want to be fancy) isn’t just a painting. It’s gold foil, gems, beads, wood, gods, legends—all packed into one glorious frame. I learned it’s from Tamil Nadu, and it’s been around since the 16th century. Crazy, right?
Back then, artists who lost patronage after the Vijayanagara empire fell ended up in Thanjavur. The rulers there—Nayakas—welcomed them, and boom, Tanjore painting was born. They mostly painted gods. And not casually—they painted them like royalty. Arches, jewels, crowns, everything.
Why Krishna? Why Not!
Somewhere during all this reading, I just knew—I wanted Krishna. Not sure why, honestly. But something about him playing the flute, with that cheeky smile… I kept imagining that on my wall.
So now came the fun part: shopping.
I checked online, browsed a few places, and then someone told me about Guruparan Stores in Chennai. Walked in, and within minutes, I saw him. It was love at first sight.
No exaggeration—I stood there staring at the painting for a full five minutes. Bought it without thinking twice.
The Day He Came Home
We brought him home, found the perfect spot in the hall, and hung him up. And guys… the room changed. Like literally changed.
It wasn’t just about filling a wall. The whole mood of the space shifted.
And every time someone comes over now, that’s the first thing they notice. “Where did you get that?” “Is that real gold?” “That’s so beautiful!”—I hear it all the time.
It’s Not Just Art
This painting doesn’t feel like decor anymore. It feels like Krishna moved in. Like the space is his now. And honestly? I’m not complaining. It feels peaceful. Grounded. Like I’ve added not just colour, but blessing to the room.
And that’s what I wanted to share. Sometimes you don’t need a total makeover. You just need one thing that speaks to your heart—and suddenly, the whole room starts to smile.
If you’re ever in Chennai, visit Guruparan Stores. You might just find your own version of Krishna waiting for you.
Or hey, maybe he’ll find you. Like he did me.
